Educational Programs
Welcome to the HSC Children's Theatre Workshops information page. Since 1992, HSC has offered exciting theatrical experiences for the children of the Pioneer Valley. We started with the simple premise that a child should be able to engage fully in the creation and performance of a play in an atmosphere of creative collaboration, low pressure and lots of fun.
Our Little Folk Tales workshops offer 5-7 year olds the opportunity to choose a character and then create a play around the collection of characters assembled. With the narrative help of the teacher, children develop and perform their play fully supported by the teacher - no missed cues or lines, no unnecessary stage fright.
For our 8-12 year olds, we offer a wide variety of themes rich in adventure, magic, music, and mystery. These workshops give them a chance to further explore playmaking and character development, basing their play on a story or particular theme. Developed and performed using improvisational techniques, the actors are free to tell the story together with plenty of room for invention in the moment.
For teens, our always popular Swashbuckling Shakespeare challenges them to speak the words of Shakespeare while wielding a weapon, bringing language and action together in an exciting workshop. This year teens will also have the opportunity to explore some of Shakespeare's most memorable material in Scene by Shakespeare.
With such a varied menu, we look forward to another summer of lively and original theatrical creations.

HSC Young Company
An apprenticeship program for young actors
The Young Company is a group of apprentice players from the community, ages 10 to 18. Several Young Company members are cast in smaller roles in one of the company's mainstage productions, and then step into the principal roles for their own production of the play. During the rehearsal process they are mentored by the adult actors, and work closely with a performance coach. They then have one final intensive week of rehearsals in the principal roles, and present a weekend of performances.

HSC Adult Workshops
From time to time, Hampshire Shakespeare also holds workshops for adults in such areas as voice, theater games, and stage combat. We'll announce any upcoming workshops on our website.
